Charles Smith, head of Veterans Affairs, said Friday that
the Wilmington design firm of David R. Polston has been
hired to design a Veterans Home Nursing facility,
which could hold between 100 and 120 beds and bring up to
130 jobs to the Kinston area The majority of those
positions would be in nursing, since the nursing home
would provide care to highly disabled veterans, but
employees are also needed to perform functions such as administration, food service, maintenance, laundry and
others. Smith said Kinston was chosen because of its central location in the east, its
proximity to medical centers in Greenville, and the
proximity of
major military bases such as Fort Bragg in Fayetteville
and Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.
