Lenoir County boasts an outstanding public school
system serving all the residents of the County. In addition to the public
schools, Lenoir County also offers private education through one parochial
school (Bethel Christian Academy) and one private academy (Arendell Parrot

Howell's Child Care Center in LaGrange, a private
institution, offers rehabilitative programs for the mentally handicapped.

North Carolina Immunization Law requires all children to be immunized
against polio, Hepatitis, and HIB, red measles, rubella, whooping cough,
diphtheria, and tetanus before entering any school or licensed day care
center. Children must have a polio booster after their fourth birthday as
well. Proof in the form of a valid immunization record must be presented to

Colleges/Universities
Lenoir Community College is part of the North Carolina
Department of Community Colleges and is accredited by the Commission on
Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College
offers more than 40 programs of study, including Associate Degree programs,
diplomas, certificates, adult basic education classes, and more. For a

Libraries
The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library, headquarters
of the Neuse Regional Library System, is located at 510 N. Queen Street.
Hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9:00
a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. In addition to outstanding
fiction and non-fiction collections, the library offers state-of-the-art
technology and information services, including word processing and a

Cultural Activities
The Community Council for the Arts, located at 400 N.
Queen Street, is a non-profit organization, which brings many cultural
programs to Lenoir County. The Arts Center features four galleries, which
change exhibits on a six-week schedule, as well as a gallery shop that
showcases artwork and gift items. Rental facilities are available within the
Art Center Building. The Council sponsors exhibitions, concerts, annual
competitions, as well as art, music, and dance classes. The council also
provides many cultural and educational opportunities for the school children

Development Centers
Developmental Evaluation Center: The Lenoir County
Satellite office is located on the Caswell Campus at 104 Pecan Lane;
telephone 252-527-4204. The Development Evaluation Center serves families in
Lenoir County who have young children with special needs. The Division of
Maternal and Child Health, within the North Carolina Department of
Environment, Health and Natural Resources, sponsors this program. The main
office, located in New Bern at 1405 S. Glenburnie Road, serves six eastern
counties including Lenoir. Diagnostic and treatment services are provided
for children from birth to age 5 who have special needs as a result of
